Being an entrepreneur is busy work.

You’re constantly in the middle of writing, coding, talking with others, or thinking of the next great thing. And when you’re busy, there are certain things you end up forgetting; certain tasks slip your mind, miss a meal, forgetting to respond to an email, etc. It can be exhausting. And the morning’s can be the worst for this.

As someone who’s not a morning person, it can be a struggle to get my day started. I tried changing my sleeping habits, changed my diet, got diffusers, the whole nine yards. But nothing worked until I tried a morning ritual

It’s a nice little trick, a rather simple fix.

Here it is:  Having a sweet and short morning ritual gets you focused for the day ahead, and can make you healthier and more productive.

So here’s the best morning ritual for the on-the-go entrepreneur to make your life easier.

Let’s go:

Wake up to an alarm - and stay up

Although the idea of sleeping in may be tempting, waking up at the same time every day is extremely beneficial. According to this article, waking up at the same time reinforces yourcircadian rhythm. It also ensures more time in the day to accomplish all the tasks on your to-do list.

Wash your face

This may seem like an arbitrary step, but splashing yourself with cold water helps to get energized and wake up on the right side of the bed. Just a couple quick splashes, and don't forget to rub your eyes for sleep, and you’ll be alert and good to go.

Not only that, but cold water can have other beneficial effects. This article outlines how the cold can help multiple issues, like clearer skin and less puffiness around the eyes and face.

Listen to music

Listening to upbeat music is a quick and easy way to start the day off right. Not only is it something you can do throughout your entire morning routine, blasting some of your favorite tunes gets you in the mood to be active and fired up!

Spotify has thousands ofmorning playliststo get you started on morning motivation, but hip-hop, R&B, upbeat pop, and classic rock are all good genres to get you ready for the busy day ahead.

Have a specific breakfast

Having a routine is extremely beneficial when you have a job that doesn't have a 9-5, as it keeps you organized to launch your dream. This can all start from a good breakfast, which I think we can all agree is the most important meal of the day.

Personally, I have a different breakfast for every day of the week, and they’re all really quick to make so I can move on to other tasks. For example, Monday’s are toast with peanut butter, sliced banana, and honey and Thursday’s are a smoothie with protein powder. It’s personally my favorite way, as having the same food everyday bores me while maintaining a strict rhythm to my day. But if you’re into a stricter routine, you can have the same breakfast every day.

Read the news

As someone who’s currently studying journalism, reading the news has become ingrained into my being. But reading the top headlines of the day on Twitter or (god forbid) a newspaper is a great way to start a productive day. Not only does it get your brain juices flowing, it keeps you informed with the world around you.

Reading headlines is also a great way to get a creative spark going, find the latest trends, keywords, and what people really care about. So while you’re eating and listening to music it might be worthwhile to scroll through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or news sites to get you ready for the day.

Breathing exercises

Before I head out the door or sit down at my computer to work, I do slow breathing exercises to prepare myself for work. I don’t do it just for focus though, I do it to take care of myself. As someone who has a tendency to work myself to the bone, I force myself every morning to take some time for myself and make sure to keep myself in check.
